Three Days of Inauguration for the UNArte Pinacotheca, the New University Museum Dedicated to Romania’s Artistic Heritage
The program, held under the name Noua (“The New”), marked the opening of the National University of Arts in Bucharest’s heritage to the public, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for artistic education and the partnership between the university, the business sector, and the artistic community.
Bucharest, July 9, 2026 – Between June 29 and July 1, 2026, the National University of Arts in Bucharest brought together representatives from the academic, cultural, diplomatic, and business sectors, alongside journalists, artists, professors, students, alumni, and the general public, in a series of events celebrating heritage, artistic education, and contemporary creation.
On this occasion, the history of Romania’s most prominent artistic education institution can now be explored through a single museum route, which brings together founding documents, heritage artworks, archives, and pieces by the new generation of artists.
A PROJECT ENVISIONED 162 YEARS AGO, REALIZED IN 2026
The history of this project begins with the establishment of the School of Fine Arts. In 1864, Theodor Aman envisioned a Pinacotheca (Art Gallery) for the School of Fine Arts: a dedicated space where the institution’s artistic heritage could be preserved, capitalized upon, and passed down to future generations. This vision remained part of the university’s memory and archives for 162 years, until it finally became reality through an extensive consolidation and rehabilitation project.
Restored with deep respect for its architectural and historical value, the Scarlat-Ghica (Robescu) House now hosts the UNArte Pinacotheca and the New Library—two complementary spaces that bring together the university’s artistic and documentary heritage, making it accessible to new generations of creators, their professors, and the community.
Both spaces feature a weekly visiting schedule, Monday through Friday, between 09:00 and 16:00, and are staffed by professionals specialized in museum circuit management. Visitors can discover artworks, historical documents, heritage objects, and one of the most significant university libraries dedicated to art in Romania, boasting over 60,000 specialized titles.
HERITAGE THAT TELLS THE HISTORY OF ROMANIAN ART
The inaugural program offered, for the very first time, guided access to some of the most valuable artworks within the UNArte heritage, which are now open to art lovers.
Among these are the écorché created by Constantin Brâncuși in collaboration with Dr. Dimitrie Gerota, the original etching press used by Theodor Aman, works from the Kalinderu Collection, historical engravings, archival documents, and the academic transcripts of prominent figures such as Constantin Brâncuși, Ștefan Luchian, Victor Brauner, and Sofian Boghiu, as well as the diploma of Zianu (Arsenie) Boca, widely known to the general public from the Orthodox monastic environment.
Together, these artifacts weave the history of the formation of modern Romanian art and the generations of artists who defined Romania’s cultural identity.
THREE DAYS OF OPENING HERITAGE TO THE COMMUNITY
The three inaugural days were successively dedicated to the press, institutional partners, and the community.
The first day, June 29, marked the official inauguration and the press conference, granting media representatives exclusive preview access to the Pinacotheca and the New Library. On the second day, June 30, Noua Soirée welcomed representatives from the cultural, academic, diplomatic, and business sectors, as well as project supporters, gathered for a curated experience designed to foster dialogue and the exchange of ideas. The inaugural program concluded on July 1 with Open Spaces, a day dedicated to the UNArte community and the general public, where students, professors, alumni, and visitors explored the university’s heritage while discovering the creations of the new generation of artists.
The attendance of over 350 people throughout the three inaugural days confirms the public’s keen interest in artistic heritage. It demonstrates that the UNArte Pinacotheca and the New Library are poised to become living cultural landmarks where history, artistic education, and contemporary creation meet to inspire new generations.

A PROJECT BUILT ON PARTNERSHIP
The Noua inaugural program demonstrates that large-scale cultural projects are built on inspired partnerships. The opening of the Pinacotheca and the New Library was made possible thanks to the involvement of partners who chose to support a unique project dedicated to heritage, art education, and culture, and who share the conviction that investing in art and young creators is, in fact, a solid investment in the development of society.

While the inaugural program has concluded, the story of the UNArte Pinacotheca and the New Library is just beginning. The National University of Arts in Bucharest aims to transform this initiative into a permanent platform dedicated to heritage, artistic education, and contemporary creation through exhibitions, cultural programs, educational projects, research, and partnerships with institutions, organizations, and companies that share the same vision.
The objective is to develop an ecosystem where the university’s heritage becomes an active resource for education, allowing students and young artists to benefit from opportunities for growth and collaboration right from their college years.
From now on, the heritage of the National University of Arts in Bucharest is a part of Romania’s living cultural heritage and of the continuous dialogue between past, present, and future.
HOW TO SUPPORT THE NOUA PROJECT
The Noua inaugural program is only the beginning of a project built for future generations. Through the UNArte Association, every donation, sponsorship, or redirection of up to 3.5% of income tax contributes to preserving the university’s artistic heritage, developing education and research, and supporting students and young artists.
In this way, the community becomes part of an endeavor that transforms heritage into a living resource for learning, creation, and cultural dialogue.
